Deadlines
Papers must be submitted ten days prior to the beginning of the APSA annual meeting.  The award will be presented at the APAC reception at the annual meeting (e.g., for 2008, papers must be submitted by 18 August 2008, and the award will then be presented on Friday, 29 August 2008, at the APAC reception).  The APAC co-chairs should publicize this prior to the deadline, using the APAC listerv, the REP listserv, and any other means deemed appropriate.

 

Eligibility
All papers dealing with Asian American politics (broadly defined), that will be presented at the conference that year.  This includes papers that focus on multiple groups, as long as APAs are a key comparison group.

 

Award Selection
Selection will be done by a committee composed of at least 3 people, chosen at the previous APAC business meeting (e.g., the 2008 Best Paper committee will be chosen at the 2007 APAC business meeting).  The winner will be announced at the APAC reception.

 

Committee Changes
Should a vacancy occur on the committee, the APAC co-chairs will appoint a replacement.

 

Special Selection Rules for Committee Member/Award Nominee*
If a member of the Best Paper committee is an author of one of the papers under consideration, the APAC co-chairs will solicit an anonymous replacement to evaluate that paper.  The co-chair will pass along the evaluation to the committee.  If a committee member wishes to have a paper considered, s/he must inform the committee at least a week prior to the general deadline (for the 2008 annual meeting, this would be by 11 August 2008), to give the co-chairs enough time to find someone to evaluate the paper.

*The assumption is that this provision is only necessary for assistant professors and graduate students.  Tenured faculty on the Best Paper committee should refrain from submitting their papers for consideration.
